New albums out today, October 2: Victoria Monét, Tinashe and more
This Friday brings new albums from Victoria Monét, Tinashe and Johnny Marr, plus a new remix of the Beatles' Rubber Soul.
Friday is when most new music comes out, and this week has a few releases worth a spot in your weekend listening.
For R&B fans, Victoria Monét's Frequency of Love runs 22 tracks. Its lead single, "Reach Out," was produced by Kaytranada and D'Mile. Tinashe also releases Popstar, a 16-track album that closes a trilogy and moves her sound from R&B toward pop and dance.
For guitar fans, Johnny Marr, known for his work with the Smiths, releases The Age of Everything, his fifth solo album, led by the single "Spin." The Australian punk band Amyl and the Sniffers has a live record, Truth or Consequence (Live from El Coyote), on which they reimagine their songs as country tunes, recorded in a Mexican restaurant.
There is also something for longtime listeners. The Beatles' 1965 album Rubber Soul returns in a new stereo mix by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, made from the original four-track tapes and released in several formats. If you know the original well, it can be fun to play a song from each version side by side and listen for what changed.
Most of these should be on the major streaming services today. A simple way to keep up is to save one or two new albums to your library tonight and give each a full listen over the weekend, perhaps on a walk or while cooking.
