The 2026 Nobel Prizes are announced starting Monday, Oct. 5. West Coast viewers will need to be up early. Here are the times in Pacific time.
Nobel week starts Monday. The prizes are announced in Stockholm and Oslo in the late morning there, which is the middle of the night on the West Coast. Here is the schedule converted to Pacific time.
The Physiology or Medicine prize comes first, Monday, Oct. 5, at 2:30 a.m. Pacific. Physics follows Tuesday at 2:45 a.m., and Chemistry Wednesday at 2:45 a.m. The Literature prize is Thursday at 4 a.m. The Nobel Peace Prize is announced in Oslo on Friday at 2 a.m. Pacific. The economics prize, formally the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences, closes things out on Monday, Oct. 12, at 2:45 a.m.
Each full prize is worth 12 million Swedish kronor this year, about $1.21 million, up from 11 million kronor in 2025. When a prize is shared, the money is split. The awards themselves are presented at ceremonies on Dec. 10.
The announcements stream live on the Nobel Prize's official digital channels.
Most people on the West Coast will simply wake up to the news. If you want something to talk about over coffee next week, read one short explainer each morning about who won and why. The science prizes in particular often reward work that quietly changed medicine or technology people use every day.
